City of lost glory

Equally, for the visitor the city is an impressive sight, the ruins show different- architectonic- styles in the outer walls and look-alike trapezoidal doors that give access to an ample plaza build with 35 steps of stone that finely collapsed. In the Vischongo's district you also can observe a large fortified tower, named Intihuatana, that once was constructed for the mandate of the Inca Pachacútec. The climate and its position, indicate that this construction had a religion and administrable function, as well for recreation.

POPULAR FESTIVALS:
Vilcas Raymi ( 28 till 30 of July ). Five years back, they accomplished for the first time this Vilcas Raymi's festival, at the present time recognized in whole of Peru. This festival consists in the staging of a play that represents the battle of the Inca’s with the Chanka´s and the triumph of the Incas. Its for the help and participation of young people in the zone the play can take place and for Huamanga, bringing local, national and international visitors. It starts off with the ancestral rituals like the preparation of qora's maize liquor and respectively the Tinkachi. The open-air festival in the evening is a total copplemaking. The burning castles and firewoods in the perimeter of Vilcashuaman's Plaza, make the chill of the night go by unnoticed to its spectators, beside this, it gives the festival an artistic presentation. In the daytime there are activities like a car race, sale of typical food, donkey race, and many more.

Vilcas UPCOUNTRY BELIEF: Puytuq, its an Inca píleta, East of the Plaza Principal de huaman, according to the Andean beliefs: if a foreign person water's a baby in this, the baby will establish itself in the zone. In like manner her young baby will find the happiness in the marriage. As to a merchant, he will spent the rest of his days here with success.

TRADICONAL FESTIVAL:  The original festival of Vilcashuaman's province celebrates the honor to the Virgin Carmen on July the 16. This is a festival for celebrating the union and Vilcas's children's brotherhood, that is, the vilquinos that live outside Vilca´s, return to their city to meet again with the relatives and friends. This celebration takes place in a very organized manner . There is also another important food festival named the Yarqa Aspiy, ( irrigation ditches clean liness ) and the carnaval of vilcashuaman is one of the more populated centers of Peru. This principal festival is characterised for its songcontest, accompanied by tinyas, Indian flutes and the satiric singing to criticize one of the established authorities. Vilcashuaman is  approximately  located at 100 Km . from Huamanga and till three hours on tour, the journey follows a road, wich once was  made, with the original name in Quechua :Willca ( sacred ), Huaman ( falcon ), united spells Vilcashuaman, earned its name for its construction in the shape of a falcon. And probably with the denomination of the inca´s the war with the chanka´s was established in these zones. And they forged a monumental fortress in  such greatness, that partly it resembles the Ollantaytambo and Sacsayhuamán ( Cuzco ), according to some chroniclers, it was one of the administrative centers of the Tahuantinsuyo, in the era of the Inca Pachacutec.

Its  existence is a token that indicate, it was a traffic road and a link among the Tahuantinsuyo's various towns; El camino real de los Inca´s. At the present time, there still are some constructions that resemblances of the Inca greatness, as the Temple of the Sun and the Moon, which stones are built and  polished and united thoroughly in a manor that you can not  deposite anything, not even a needle. At the same  time, they tell in Vilcashuaman was existing a military garnishment of woman, who were dedicated to the Sun and and the Moon.(part of the pertenecían's cult of the noble Inca´s ).
