TOROMATCH
Ayacucho- Shouting, singing and whistling, getting the attention of the bull, trying to distract him from attacking the chair, there he comes, make noise, drink beer, more noise, more beer……
This event is originally a Spanish celebration, called “corrida”. Because of Peru‘s colonisation, some Spanish traditions have remained and are now part of the Peruvian culture. Of course, it is not a traditional corrida: it is much less formal, there are no typical costumes and the bulls will not be killed. Still, most people are dressed in red and white. The activity takes place in the Arena, where different groups of participants have to face one after one a bull. While one of the team is standing on a chair placed in the centre of the area, the others intend to distract the bulls so as to keep him far from this person. The winner is the team who had managed to keep the person on the chair the longer without falling of it. Sometimes the team does quite well, but other times, the team stays no more than two minutes before being defeated by the bull!
The event ends with an activity that is for sure the one that all the men are excepting for: All the girls, shortly dressed, go in the Arena and have to catch a chicken which is trying to escape from these frightening women in a fury.
MINO-TRONIC FESTIVAL IN MUYURINA
Muyurina, Friday night - This normally so peaceful village nearby Ayacucho got stirred up by pumping rhythms, alcoholic breaths, a hundred jumping youngsters, up for an all-night-party……
Students of Ayacucho organised this party to rise founds for the children of Muyurina, and also to expand this type of music in the region. The organisation was quite good, thanks to the help of the students of Ayacucho, and the participation of the local people. There were food and drinks, and animation with jugglers who were playing with fire. From 6 pm to 10 am DJ’s (mostly Peruvians) had mixed various types of electronic music such as House, Hard Tech, Spy Trans…
On Saturday the Belgium DJ ALEX decided to screw up the party: according to him there were not enough people and it was not acceptable to play for so little number of people. He asked for more money or threatened to stop mixing. The organizers refused to pay him more, DJ ALEX lost his temper, people were nearly fighting, and the party was cancelled.
