by Jan Kuijt

Every hour with increasing of the groups, who’ve already finished their performance, the drinking begins to have its face. The colours of fading paint still on their faces and the presentator shouts its way through the next performance explaining what we see now, chaotic and yet everybody seems to know its structure.
Ayacucho is famous for it’s Carnaval.
This festival takes in the stadium, where all different groups of whole the district can expose their typical dance in combination with a live band and a little theatre performance.
They have the possibility to improve their act in three Sunday performances. Every Sunday there’s a jury dividing points to the fourthy different groups. On the third Sunday the best will be chosen. This group will receive its reward in the form of a golden handdrum.
And on the fourth Sunday the whole act will take place in the major plaza.
All acts have their distinguished differences in performance, some are more professional then others.
